THE HOWLING TASMAN WIND

The howling Tasman wind, an exhibition curated by New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based photographer and writer Christine McFetridge, looks at the relationship photographic artists living in Australia and New Zealand have to the land. The artists included comprise wide-ranging practices and motivations, further engaging with the project by contributing a personal written response about a significant place or memory. The isolation of the Antipodes to the rest of the world encourages an affinity for the natural environment within its people; this is something shared between the two countries, like the Tasman Sea and the Southern Cross that perforates the night sky.
